MEASURING FOR VALANCES
Please click on the links below to read more detailed information:
MEASURING FOR VALANCES - WHEN THE IS VALANCE ALONE ON THE WINDOW OR THE DOOR
MEASURING FOR VALANCES - WHEN THE VALANCE IS INSTALLED OVER OTHER OUTSIDE MOUNT TREATMENTS
MEASURING FOR VALANCES - WHEN THE IS VALANCE ALONE ON THE WINDOW OR THE DOOR
FACE WIDTH
- Measurement from one end of the window or the door to the other end of the window or the door including the frames on the two sides. You can go even more if any extra wall space is required to be covered. (Generally 2" and more) on each side.
RETURNS
- It is the projection from the wall into the room. Returns hide the hardware, brackets giving a finished look.
FINISHED WIDTH
- Total of face width + each side return
Example:
If face width - 80"
If return is 4" per side
Then finished width is - 80" + 4" + 4" = 88"
FINISHED LENGTH
- Standard is 20" maximum. When you decide the height of the valance make sure that it falls at least 3" below any frames that cover the window.
NOTE:
- If there is more than one valance in one room its attractive to have them done in the same height and also mounted at the same level.

MEASURING FOR VALANCES - WHEN THE VALANCE IS INSTALLED OVER OTHER OUTSIDE MOUNT TREATMENTS
FACE WIDTH
- Take the measurement of the under treatment rod from bracket to bracket.
For Example 60"
To this add 2" on each side so there is no interference.
Hence Total Face Width = 60" + 2" +2" = 64"
RETURNS
- is the projection from the wall into the room. Returns hide the hardware, brackets giving a finished look.
First measure the return of the under treatment
For Example say 4" each side
To this add 2" on each side for proper performance of the under treatment.
Hence, Return on each side is 4" + 2" = 6"
TOTAL FINISHED WIDTH
- Face Width + Returns
64" + 6" + 6" = 76".
FINISHED LENGTH
- Standard is 20" maximum. When you decide the height of the valance make sure that it covers the headings or rod of the under treatment.
NOTE:
- If there is more than one valance in one room its attractive to have them done in the same height and also mounted at the same level.
